The Main Gallery
Waveney Wireless was started as part of Waveney Heritage Centre with a bequest from local broadcaster and character Stewart Orr. Originally he would open his own home to visitors to show his collection of broadcast and related objects but subsequently, due to his failing health, he moved part of his collection to the Waveney Heritage Centre so that it could form the basis for a museum and a continuation of his lifelong interest in radio and recording. This included a strong educational element, which we are continuing by developing his teaching strategies and materials to fulfil part of the National Curriculum element dealing with the history of Technology.
We are have created a timeline display of Radio and recording equipment of the twentieth Century. Our aim is to have as many exhibits as possible restored back to their original working condition to allow all our visitors to enjoy the experience the sights and sounds of the past that our predecessors used to enjoy.
